I've not posted lately as I'm having computer issues. I'm hoping to have things straightened out soon. Tomorrow I'll try to borrow one so I can catch up on friend's entries.
I was tagged in a meme by  uoyevoli

First: If you've been tagged, you must write your answers in your own LJ and replace any question that you dislike with a new question.

Second: Tag eight people. [I think only two people read this, and they've been tagged already]

Lots of pillows or just one?
Lots. Less than three and I can't sleep.
I really need four full-sized, but a cat or a husband would do nicely in place of a fourth.

Anything except porn, really trashy pop-fic, or sci-fi

Listen to Allah, I used to call this instinct (and to my detriment often ignored it)

Spiders! Men in tight pants.

What's your current fandom/obsession/addiction?
I love the Twilight series, and I have to admit I watch the Kardashians

You Tube, NYTimes, Reuters, Google

What was the last thing you bought?
A pocket-sized package of kleenex

Do you get cravings? If so, what do you crave?
Yes. Coke or Pepsi

I/2 of a protein bar, and a cup of tea

Do you want to learn another language?
Yes, Arabic

Five things you can't live without?
1) Cats
2) Books

4) Prayer
5) the Internet

Find the closest book currently sitting near you and flip to page 36. What is the first sentence of the second paragraph?
'You can't blame her,' said Chloe, panting and wiping her hand over her forehead. 'She's been trained to chase small furry things.'

What's something that you'd like to say to someone right now?

I want to go to the Computer Accessories store now!

What are you looking forward to?
Talking to someone special on Skype with all of my accoutremnets working.

What is your favourite electronic accessory?
Phone

Do you remember your dreams? Yes, though the nightmares are remembered more vividly than the good ones.

Glad That's Over

After waiting two years I had my disability hearing this morning.  As it turned out getting up at 5am was worth it because Alhamdudilah I won! I can finally go back to work, will get a monthly check and  will recieve a  (small) lump settlement for payments owed me from the last few years.

This is one of the best things that's happened to me in years, Alhamdudilah!

Prayers for a Soul

I just watched a neighbor die. It's not uncommon for people to die here, and now and then a body is found a few days later. I live in an apartment complex in a lousy part of town where everyone is very poor. Nearly everyone is on disability which just pays the rent, if it's shared. There is a very high rate of drug and alcohol abuse, people come here to buy crack, we often hear gunshots. I'm frequently startled late at night by bursts of automatic gunfire. It's a rare week that the medics and police haven't been here several times.

Tonight we heard sirens while cooking dinner, we soon realized there were a lot more sirens than usual, and more than one kind. I looked outside and saw smoke coming from the vicinity of the apartment adjacent to us. A good friend, B, lives in that building and I saw her on the walkway downstairs so I went down to see what was going on. She said her friend Teresa had overdosed. We watched the medics carry out her limp body, and more medics running towards them with resuscitation equipment. By the time they reached her we were watching them spread a sheet  over her body and face.

I didn't know Teresa myself., but I do know she was a very troubled  soul. She passed out leaning against her lit gas burner. The one mercy is she was unconscious when she burned so she felt nothing. B. was- is- very upset and I tried to comfort her, mostly just listened to she and other people who had encountered Teresa intoxicated earlier today and are feeling somehow guilty. I've been praying for her soul, may Allah have mercy on her. Please, if you read this, say a prayer for the soul of Teresa, and that Allah will comfort the son she left behind.

Meanwhile, the person I live with is passed out on the same drug that she overdosed with- luckily he doesn't mix alcohol with it which is what's especially lethal, but this whole evening is indescribably sad.

Allahu Akbar!

Like many millions of people I've been captivated today with  images of the thirty-three miners trapped in Chile as they emerged to freedom after nearly seventy days. I cried unabashedly.  It was lovely to see something so positive and so joyful- especially something that involved a great number of people working in cooperation for a common (and good) goal. Not only succeeding, but surpassing their own expectations.

what am i doing?

I'm very happy with my decision to become a Muslim, and am very grateful to Allah for leading me to this path which is the right one for me. I've started this journal as a place to talk about my journey as a Muslim convert, especially as one seeking a spouse.

It's tricky enough navigating the minefield of relationships, but going from years of typical american dating to trying to find the person to spend life with in an Islamic marriage is proving more heartbreaking and difficult than I had imagined.
